ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Launches New Food ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Journal
Washington, D.C.—The American Society for ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ (ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥) is launching ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Food ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥, a new journal dedicated to advancing research on microbial safety, fermentation, spoilage and biotechnological innovations in food systems. The journal will begin accepting submissions in early 2026.
ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Food ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ will be ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥’s 17th peer-reviewed journal and its 9th open access journal. It will join a portfolio that spans topics, including applied and environmental microbiology, bacteriology, infection and immunity, systems biology, animal microbiology and more.
The field of food microbiology is expanding rapidly as global food systems become more complex, foodborne pathogens continue to emerge and demand for safe, sustainable and nutritious food increases. At the same time, innovations in biotechnology, fermentation processes, probiotic development and microbial solutions to sustainability challenges are opening new frontiers. ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Food ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ will provide a vital platform for cutting-edge research that addresses these critical areas and opportunities.
The journal will focus on foodborne pathogens and microbial safety; probiotics and prebiotics in food systems; food fermentation microbiology; microbial spoilage and food preservation; biotechnology for food production; food microbiomes; and innovations in detection methods.
“ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Food ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ will bring together leading research at the intersection of microbiology, food safety and biotechnology. It aims to support scientists tackling today’s biggest food challenges while advancing ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥’s commitment to global health and scientific discovery,” said Melissa Junior, Executive Publisher at ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥.
To guide this effort, ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Journals has launched its search for an editor in chief (EiC). The selected EiC will commence their 5-year renewable term on Jan. 1, 2026, and will play a vital role in shaping the journal's strategic direction. Qualified individuals may apply directly, and nominations of colleagues are also welcome. Applications are due by Sept. 29, 2025.
Apply online to be considered for the ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Food ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ EiC position, and an ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Journals staff member will contact you if you are shortlisted. If nominating a colleague, please email candidate nominations to journals@asmusa.org. â¶Ä¯&²Ô²ú²õ±è;
