ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Welcomes New President and Leadership

Washington, D.C.—The American Society for ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ (ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥) welcomes a new President, President-Elect and new members of the Board of Directors. They begin serving their leadership terms on July 1, 2025. These leaders will play a pivotal role in advancing ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥’s strategic roadmap and overseeing the continued implementation of its 3 scientific units.

Alexander McAdam, M.D., Ph.D., the Director of Infectious Diseases Diagnostic Laboratory and associate professor of pathology at Harvard Medical School, will serve as the 2025-2026 ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ President.

Vaughn Cooper, Ph.D., professor of microbiology and molecular genetics and computational and systems biology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and Co-Founder and Director of the Center for Evolutionary Biology and Medicine, will serve as President-Elect of the Board of Directors.  

 

In addition, Michael D. L. Johnson, Ph.D., has been elected to the Board of Directors as an At-Large Director. Michelle Dziejman, Ph.D., was appointed by the ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Board of Directors, in accordance with ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Bylaws, to serve the remainder of Cooper’s term as At-Large Director, which will conclude on June 30, 2026. 


ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ congratulates its new and continuing leaders and looks forward to their contributions in advancing the microbial sciences and guiding the Society’s strategic vision.

ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ advances the microbial sciences through conferences, publications, certifications, educational opportunities and advocacy efforts. It enhances laboratory capacity around the globe through training and resources. It provides a network for scientists in academia, industry and clinical settings. Additionally, ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ promotes a deeper understanding of the microbial sciences to all audiences.
