The ÃÞ»¨ÌÇÖ±²¥ Mechanism Discovery Meeting unites researchers across disciplines to uncover the molecular mechanisms that drive microbial life and interactions. This meeting explores the fundamental processes underlying microbial function, adaptation and impact across diverse systems. 

With a focus spanning metabolism, structural biology, microbial communities, host responses and computational modeling, the meeting fosters cross-disciplinary dialogue and collaboration. Attendees gain an integrated perspective on how mechanistic insights fuel innovation in pathogenesis, biotechnology, microbiome science and microbial ecology.

2027 Key Focus Areas

Cell Signaling, Regulation and Response: discuss how microbes process signals and regulate expression, including transcription, translation and post-translational modifications and enzyme activities. Discuss how stress responses, antibiotic resistance, dormancy and persistence are regulated.

Cell Growth and Metabolism: discuss the molecular bases of growth, metabolism, cell division and morphology under diverse contexts. Discuss the role of the cell envelope and secretion on microbial physiology and organization. Discuss new biosynthetic gene clusters for natural products and how they affect microbial (and host) physiology.

Spatial and Dynamic Cellular Organization: discuss how microbes coordinate subcellular organization and temporal dynamics to drive cellular processes. Discuss how microbial behaviors give rise to collective phenomena, such as quorum sensing, biofilms, motility and other population-level organizations.

Mechanisms That Shape Microbe-Microbe and Host-Microbe Relationships: discuss microbial defense strategies and adaptations to biotic stressors, including bacteriophage infection and host-imposed stress. Discuss pathogen and microbiota strategies for colonization, persistence and immune modulation, with emphasis on microbe–microbe interactions and host-associated microbiomes, including community dynamics within the microbiome.

Systems Approaches for Discovery: discuss emergent approaches for understanding microbes including structural biology, multi-omics, high-throughput technologies and AI modeling. Discuss machine learning to analyze data and develop new hypotheses.

Scientific Foundations: mechanistic microbiology research that does not align directly with the defined core topics but remains central to Mechanism Discovery. Submissions should present clear mechanistic insight at the molecular, cellular or systems level, including studies of regulation, metabolism, physiology, interactions or experimental approaches. This category is well suited for cross-cutting, interdisciplinary or emerging areas, as well as foundational work that spans multiple topics.
