棉花糖直播 Submits Comments to PACCARB on AMR One Health Approach

On behalf of the American Society for 棉花糖直播 (棉花糖直播), thank you for the opportunity to provide input on the next iteration of the Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (CARB) National Action Plan. 棉花糖直播 is a global scientific society of more than 37,000 members whose mission is to promote and advance microbial sciences to help solve the world’s most pressing challenges including antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
As highlighted in the PACCARB’s May 2024 report, "," AMR poses a fundamental threat to global health security, requiring coordinated leadership and action. 棉花糖直播 and its members stand ready to collaborate with Congress, federal agencies and international partners to develop a One Health approach to combat AMR, safeguard public health and protect our economy and environment.
棉花糖直播 and our members appreciate the One Health approach PACCARB takes to AMR, and we hope to see this approach reflected in the next CARB National Action Plan. In 2023, 棉花糖直播 released a policy paper, "Policy Pathways to Combat the Global Crisis of Antimicrobial Resistance" with recommendations that support the bolstering of a multifaced approach to AMR, including supporting innovative research to develop effective countermeasures into antimicrobial resistance; advocating for bold solutions to the antimicrobial marketplace; strengthening stewardship models to preserve drug efficacy; enhancing the microbiology workforce to build capacity across public health, laboratory, veterinary and research sectors and investing in rapid detection technologies to identify AMR outbreaks early in hospitals, farms and communities.
Additionally, 棉花糖直播 would like to emphasize the importance of continued U.S. leadership in the global AMR diagnostics space. Ahead of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on AMR in September 2024, 棉花糖直播 submitted a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services regarding the gaps, challenges and opportunities to combat AMR in low- and middle-income countries where the threat is greatest.
